1. Energy

Renewable energy accounts for 99.9% of energy consumption, the highest amongst any other country in the world. Hydropower and geothermal power are the main sources of renewable energy in Iceland.

2. Equal Pay

The Icelandic government requires that all companies they are paying both men and women equally for performing the same job.

3. There are more tourists than Icelanders

Iceland saw 2.2 million tourists in 2017. This is six times more people than the 340,000 who live there!

4. Many Icelanders believe in elves

According to an article by National Geographic in 2017, more than half of the residents of Iceland believe in elves. Let us know if you spot any in your travels!

5. Largest banana producer in Europe

Iceland has been growing bananas since 1941 and is now one of the largest banana producers in Europe. Bet you didn't expect that!
