Updated: Jul 16, 2019

The Italian parts of Switzerland are not frequently explored by many tourists, even though there are many beautiful destinations in this region. Here are a few we recommend checking out on your visit.

1. Gandria

An old fisherman's village a short ferry ride from Lugano on the cliff with dynamic view of the lake and the colorful houses. You will probably be one of the few visitors walking around there.

2. Lugano

One of the largest cities in the Italian region of Switzerland surrounded by beautiful lakes and mountains. If you arrive by train, you will be amazed by the breathtaking landscape that you can see right in front of the Lugano station.

3. Ascona

A small town right next to Locarno is a wealthy residential and resort town kept secret for Swiss residents. You can try Italian influenced Swiss food in the region.

4. Locarno

Locarno, located on the northern shore of Lago Maggiore, has the warmest climate in all of Switzerland. The town is known for its annual film festival as well as the pilgrimage church of Madonna del Sasso which is said to have been guided by an appearance of the Virgin Mary.

5. Bellinzona

Best known for its 3 medieval castles, Bellinzona is the southernmost capital of Switzerland and considered by many to be the most beautiful places in Switzerland. While you’re there don’t forget to check out The Museo Villa dei Cedri which has regional art from the 19th century to the present on display.
